About the Lakelse Dragon Boat Society

The Lakelse Dragon Boat Society (LDBS) is committed to encouraging,
promoting and developing both recreational and competitive dragon
boating in the Terrace area. Our main focus is community involvement in
the sport of dragon boating for men and women of all ages and skill
levels.
The
LDBS was registered as a non-profit society in September 2006 after an
enthusiastic group of individuals came together and expressed an
interest in acquiring a dragon boat and forming a society. Thanks in
major part to the initial vision and financial commitment by both
Hawkair and CFNR, a dragon boat was secured, the LDBS was formed and
three successful Annual Mix-Up Regattas have now been held. Plans are
currently underway for the 4th Annual Mix-Up Regatta to be held
September 11, 2010. Fundraising efforts by LDBS members and volunteers
were so successful that the boat was fully purchased by the society
during its first year. Along with community partners, the LDBS and the
Annual Mix-Up Regatta foster a spirit of healthy competition and
community involvement throughout Northwest British Columbia.
In
February 2008, Hawkair and CFNR were granted “Founding Sponsor” status
by the Lakelse Dragon Boat Society. This permanent designation has been
provided to recognize their initial vision and financial commitment
that has made dragon boating a reality in the Terrace area. Hawkair and
CFNR are also the designated “Presenting Sponsors” for the Lakelse
Dragon Boat Society’s Annual Mix-Up Regatta.
